|Abstract=THERE. critically examines an article by D. Pels entitled "Karl Mannheim and the sociology of scientific knowledge: Towards a new agenda". It shows that for the latter the sociology of knowledge is in a deadlock. He warns against the growing influence of Wittgenstein he describes relativistic. Pels believes that an approach inspired by that of Mannheim will provide a general theoretical framework to better understand the nature of knowledge.
