What is YorCCA?

The York Conference on Conversation Analysis (YorCCA) is a CA conference organised by postgraduate researchers at the University of York and affiliated with the Centre for Advanced Studies in Language and Communication (CASLC). The conference aims to provide a welcoming environment for postgraduate researchers to present their work to fellow postgraduates and established academics and to receive feedback and advice as they develop their projects. Our hope is that YorCCA will contribute to the academic and professional development of postgraduate researchers in CA.

Invited Speakers

  • Rebecca Clift (University of Essex)
  • Elliott Hoey (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)

Call for Papers

We welcome proposals from postgraduate researchers for 20-minute presentations of research that uses conversation analysis, interactional linguistics, or a related methodology to investigate naturally occurring social interaction. The research must be based on audio-video recordings. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by a 10-minute discussion period.

Abstract guidance

  • Clearly describe the interactional phenomenon or practise your paper analyses.
  • Briefly describe the data, collection, and specific methods used.
  • Summarise the study's main findings or conclusions, however tentative.
  • Include a brief transcript and sample analysis.
  • Consider the wider contribution and implication of the research.
  • Limit your abstract to 300 words (excluding the transcript).

Please do not put your name, email address, or affiliation on the document (to facilitate a double blind review process).

Submission deadline for abstracts is Friday 5th April 2024

Notification of acceptance

Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent via email in late April 2024. Early notification is provided to enable visa holders to attend.
