Details:

Introduction to the Jefferson system of transcription - 27 June 2022 (online)

This one day course is a contemporary working introduction to the specialist Jefferson system for producing detailed transcripts of talk-in-interaction for social research. The course uses a blend of formal lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises and expert feedback. This course is led by Dr Rebecca Barnes, and a team of experienced and approachable tutors from the University of Oxford. It is open to anyone who would like to understand the central elements behind the Jefferson system of transcription, how it differs from standard orthographic (verbatim) or ‘play-script’ transcripts, and to develop their own practical skills in using it to transcribe recordings of naturalistic talk.
