Abstract
Two studies of the links among language, gender and education are critically evaluated as a basis for further discussion: one from the primary education sector and the other from a further education perspective. Some methodological pitfalls in the qualitative analyses included in these papers are discussed. Alternative theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of gender and discourse are considered.
