Abstract

Different institutional tasks are accomplished in the Dutch police interrogation: from filling in required paperwork, to getting the confession (or truth) on paper, to editing the text of the written statement. All these different phases have different goals and go hand in hand with different typing practices. The intertwining of these activities in the various phases of the police interrogation is of interest because it demonstrates that these two activities and the way they influence and structure each other in interaction are related to the institutional goal of that phase. Subsequently, this may have an effect on the product that is being constructed – the police record.
