Abstract
This contribution to the volume examines data demonstrating the presence of a double causal construction conjunction parce que comme ‘because since’, in French interactional contexts. The construction is analysed here as an on-line resource (Auer 2009, Auer/Pfänder 2011) for dialogue. This is shown to occur when participants wish to not only account for a prior action, but also to ensure that their interlocutors can fully understand the reason for and therefore better deal with the claim. That is, when they want others to display affliliation with their activity. In this case affliliation refers to a whole-hearted and overt comprehension and acceptance of a request or statement related to a prior request. In this sense, the double causal construction contributes to “fishing” for such affiliation.
