Abstract
In this paper we analyze, by means of the theoretical and methodological framework of membership categorization analysis (MCA), reports about the use of male condoms in heterosexual relations in calls to a government helpline on health issues. The data analysis reveals that males decide not to use the condoms and the women consent to this decision. In the calls in which the callers report being married, the use of condoms is not even topicalized as an issue. We conclude that there is a persistent lack of female agentivity in the negotiation of the use of male condoms.
