Abstract
The problem of warranting interpretations of social action is discussed in terms of the controversy over aktuelles Verstehen. Borrowing from ordinary language philosophy, a method of warranting is proposed. The method is demonstrated by explicating the grammar of the concept of justification and showing how the conditions were satisfied in Trudeau’s War Measures Act speech for interpreting three of his (speech) acts as justification.
