Abstract
Presented is an ethnomethodological treatment of issues pertinent to transcribed conversation from a radio program. Discussion of transcribed materials raises a variety of methodological issues including: (1) the problem of distinguishing between the data per se & processes represented by way of the data-eg, organizational & interpretive activities; (2) distinguishing between ongoing (ie, natural) interpretation of the data & special (eg, scientific) interpretation & analysis; & (3) restoring to the data features which are usually excluded when materials are rendered as data for analysis.
