CA&CE is an international meeting for researchers interested in the application of conversation analytic (CA) methods to communication in clinical contexts. Days one and two begin with plenary talks and then showcase applied CA research alongside the opportunity to participate in small group data sessions working with a variety of clinical encounters data. On the third day, clinicians and other interested parties are invited to join the event, and the programme is designed to be of special interest to them – to showcase how the perspective and methods of CA can contribute to our understanding of clinical practice, to improving the effectiveness of communication in clinical contexts, and in the design and evaluation of communication-based interventions in clinical trials.

Oral presentations:

We welcome submissions for oral presentations of recently completed or current research applying CA methods to communication in health care settings. Each oral presentation slot is 30 mins – 20 mins for talk and 10 mins for questions/discussion. For your submission, please include a title and the name/s of the presenter/s, followed by a brief statement of the problem or issue, a description of your methods, the major findings, the conclusions reached, and three keywords (max. 300 words).

The CA&CE meetings have evolved a certain ‘style’; they are relatively small – numbers are capped, there are plenty of opportunities to discuss papers and to work with and explore a wide variety of original data. So, there is a real emphasis on participation, interchange, sharing research ideas and findings – as much of a ‘hands on’ approach as is possible within the constraints of such a meeting.

Data sessions:
 +
We also welcome submissions to host small group data sessions working with recordings and Jeffersonian transcripts of communication in health care settings. The data sessions are 90-minute slots. Data can include any language. For your submission, please include a title and the name/s of the presenter/s, followed by a brief description of the data you plan to share, whether it is video or audio data, and relevant ethical permissions (max. 250 words).
