At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – the Working Group Technology and Diversity – offers a full-time position available immediately, fixed term until 30th of June 2025, for a
Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d) (the salary is according to E 13 TV-L)
The position is part of the Transregional Collaborative Research Center 318 “Constructing Explainability” (https://trr318.uni-paderborn.de/en/), located at Paderborn and Bielefeld Universities. The center focuses on the development of co-constructing explaining AI-systems. The subproject B03 on “Exploring users, roles, and explanations in real-world contexts” (https://trr318.uni-paderborn.de/en/projects/b03) at Paderborn University investigates everyday interactions with AI systems across diverse social groups by analyzing digital documentations and transcripts. The candidate is expected to contribute to research aiming for subsequent scholarly publications and participation in leading international conferences.
Responsibilities:
- research and collaboration, participation in the activities of the project B03 and the TRR 318
- conducting research aimed at scholarly publications and participation in leading international conferences
- developing and refining methodological instruments
- networking within the TRR318
- conducting—and contributing to the development of workshops, discussion groups and public outreach activities
- interdisciplinary communication and cooperation
- participating in activities of the Working Group Technology and Diversity
Essential Qualifications:
- Scientific degree (Diploma/Master's degree) / PhD in social sciences, e.g. sociology, Science & Technology Studies
- knowledge of qualitative and quantitative social research; experience in empirical social research and / or methodological knowledge of qualitative social research, the documentary method / reconstructive social research, field research / Grounded theory
- the ability to work independently, commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration in an international team
- very good knowledge of English and German; knowledge of additional languages is desirable
