We seek: In the Collaborative Research Center 1187 "Media of Cooperation", sub-project P01 “Media of Praxeology I: Multisensory Mediality and Cooperative Practice”, we are looking for a research assistant at the earliest possible date under the following conditions:
- 65 % = 25,89 hours
- Pay grade TV-L 13
- limited until 31.12.2027
The CRC 1187 is an interdisciplinary research network consisting of 15 projects and more than 60 scientists from media studies, science and technology studies, ethnology, sociology, linguistics and literary studies, computer science and medicine as well as history, education and engineering. It has been funded by the DFG since 2016. Research focuses on the study of digitally networked media and their practices. The advertised PhD position is integrated within the sub-project “Media of Praxeology I: Multisensory Mediality and Cooperative Practice” (P01). This sub-project will research sensorial practices in everyday and professional interactions, articulating them with empirical work in multimodal conversation analysis, and with theoretical work on Garfinkel and ethnomethodology. In particular, the PhD position will develop, together with Lorenza Mondada (linguistics) and Christian Meyer (sociology), a special focus on synaesthesia in social interaction, on the basis of field and video materials documenting food activities (such as in gastronomy).
Your tasks:
- More particularly the tasks of the PhD will be
- to do fieldwork in professional and ordinary settings involving food activities and to gather video-recordings of these activities;
- to transcribe these video data, including embodied conducts;
- to engage, together with the supervisors, in in-depth multisensorial analyses, within the framework of multimodal conversation analysis and ethnomethodology;
- to develop a personal research topic on which the dissertation will be written;
- to do coordination work within the scientific activities of the project (organization of workshops etc.)
This is a position for further scientific qualification (doctorate). The opportunity for this is given within the scope of the official duties.
Your profile:
- Relevant, above-average academic degree (Master's or comparable), preferably in linguistics or in related disciplines, e.g., sociology, social sciences, and media studies
- Training and/or scientific expertise in the topics of the CRC and more particularly in the field of social interaction (conversation analysis, ethnomethodology)
- Capacity to work and write in English, as well as ability to engage in fieldwork and data analysis in German and possibly French (other languages are also welcome)
- If possible, experience in the organization of scientific events
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Willingness to participate in and contribute to the interdisciplinary activities of the CRC
