Abstract
The concern of this paper is to describe and analyze the properties of one practice of practical reasoning as it functions and is embedded in the form of the life and language-game of depression. While depression is the locus of this practice, it will be argued that the practice operates in other forms of life. The practice can be understood as a constituent of the so-called documentary method of interpretation (cf. Garfinkel, 1967, pp. 76-103).
