Abstract
Facial movements are one of humans' most salient embodied resources within social interaction. As facial gestures1 in the sense of "utterance uses of visible action" (Kendon, 2004: 1f), their functions are centered around building intersubjective understanding and affective alignment in co-present interaction, as well as around organizing talk and interaction.
