Abstract
The focus of this chapter is on the interactional competence of second-language (L2) speakers that emerge through the situated practice of storytelling, where storytelling is both a resource for, and is itself a resource in, sense-making. The chapter begins with an overview of previous research. This provides the background for the three studies featured in this section: Greer and Burdelski and Takei, both concerned with Japanese and English, and Wong, focused on Mandarin and English.
