Abstract

Notes

Presents a single case-analysis of videotaped interaction in a natural setting (a shop selling photographic equipment to the public) to show how people employ humor in the course of economic negotiation. Humorous conduct is seen as having distinctive features that help participants to deal with some of the interactional difficulties that occur during face-to-face bargaining. These difficulties are shown to be structurally generated in the case under study. In this setting, Ss are seen as initiating humor in accordance with their position in the pattern of structured social relationships. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
