Details:
Research Fellow Primary Care and Population Sciences
Aldermoor Health Centre, University of Southampton
Opportunity to conduct a fellowship in primary care research using applied conversation analytic methods at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will be working with Professor Geraldine Leydonand Dr. [Catherine Woods https://www.southampton.ac.uk/medicine/about/staff/cjw1y11.page].
The Primary Care group within the Primary Care and Population Sciences Academic Unit is offering a post-doctoral or doctoral level fellowship for social scientists trained in applied conversation analytic methods and who have an interest in primary care research, funded by the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (http://www.spcr.nihr.ac.uk/). The Primary Medical Care Group is a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, a national collaboration between the nine departments that performed best in the 2013 REF, which provides major opportunities for networking, training, and multicentre collaborations.
The fellowship will fund someone with the potential to develop towards becoming an independent investigator, conducting research related to one of the themes of the Primary Care group. We welcome applications from individuals from social science, including medical sociology and psychology, or other relevant disciplines. The successful candidate will focus on working with senior investigators to develop a longer research project to support the candidate beyond the term of the one-year Fellowship. They will also have the opportunity to develop a bespoke training programme in general/specialist research skills.
We are looking for a track record in applied conversation analysis, preferably with some experience of analysing health care interactions. Evidence of ability to produce peer-reviewed publications would be an advantage. The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in discourse analysis/conversation analysis/discursive psychology/sociology.
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
The successful candidate will need to take up the post from 2nd January 2019. The post is funded for up to 12 months (full or part time) subject to satisfactory progress. Please note: regardless of the hours of work the funding will cease on 31st December 2019.
An Enhanced DBS Check will be required for this role.
