Abstract
The particular actor and setting we have been studying is the cab driver and his world. One of the major problems the cab driver faces in performing his usual activities is that of locating persons and places. His work consists largely of tasks related to this problem, i.e., finding parts of town, streets, intersections, specific addresses, buildings, and persons at such places who have either called for or are merely looking for a cab. Once he has "found" a passenger and is given a destination, he undertakes again the complicated search procedure involved in finding the place that is "ordered."
