Participants:
- Challenger (CHA): Customer
- Target (TAR): Customer
- Cameraperson (CAM): Customer, Target’s son
Ethnographic notes:
- CHA (in sunglasses) is the primary participant within frame throughout, outside of TAR at two points. Targets are CAM’s “parents” (line 7), but only mom’s (TAR’s) voice is heard clearly in the video; other male voices speak Spanish in the background around lines 20-25 and elsewhere, all of whom are likely co-targets in CHA’s initial complaint. CAM, who recorded the altercation, was the one who initially posted the video on social media.
Transcript notes:
- Video and transcript begin mid-altercation. English translations are provided for turns in Spanish. Individual pronunciational details have been rendered approximately with orthography.
