Abstract
This paper contributes to the development of a methodology of multimodal inter- action. It analyses in detail how two duets of confirmands (two girls and two boys) in the pre-liturgical phase of a church service structure their "candle walk". The girls coordinate their way towards the altar room – where they light their candles – and back to the church bench as "walking together". The boys instead, organize their walk as "walking behind someone". The analysis is framed by the concept of "walking as situated practice" which – as a result of the analytical in- sights – is specified in the concluding part.
