Within the last fifty years, the study of institutional interaction has been carried out by a large number of scholars referring in diversified ways to conversation analysis (CA), ethnomethodology (EM) and workplace studies (WPS). This entry presents the specific approaches of these three related fields, elaborating on their major topics. In the conclusion, their theoretical, methodological, and applied contributions are highlighted.
