Abstract
This artide analyses how talk is managed in a TV debate show, where politicans discuss issues in the presence of a Studio audience. Taking äs its case an episode from the British TV show Question Time, it examines the contextually sensitive use of conversational resources to build a local structure of alignment and counter-alignment between two disputing panel members and sections of the Studio audience. Analyzing a single case in detail, the article focusses on the use of recompletiont a rhetorical device described in previous work on political rhetoric (Atkinson, 1984), to construct sides in 'live political talk on TV.
