- Use & search the #EMCA hashtag on twitter - it's probably the most active #EMCA online community
- You can follow lots of #EMCA tweeps here: https://twitter.com/kobin/lists/conversation-analysis
There are a number of groups - some are open, some closed. Here's a list you can check out.

Mailing lists
Discourse and Rhetoric Group [DARG] Mailing list
- Status: functional, last checked by SaulAlbert (talk)
This mailing list is primarily used to advertise upcoming Discourse and Rhetoric Group events at Loughborough University, UK. It is also used to advertise EM/CA positions and opportunities and occasionally for CA-relevant questions.
It is managed by the current DARG coordinator at Loughborough University (information can be found on https://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/crcc/events/darg-events/). Email the DARG coordinator in order to subscribe, or advertise a CA opportunity / ask an EM/CA-relevant question to its subscribers.
THE LANGUSE LIST
- Status: partially functional, last checked by SaulAlbert (talk)
- Another mailing list that still functions (to send/receive email) but its website (http://www.list.hum.aau.dk/mailman/listinfo/languse) seems broken
You can try following Paul's original instructions below to join - who knows whether it'll work. Report back!
From Paul's original description: There is another list that also carries a lot of EM and especially CA-relevant information and discussions: the LangUse list, devoted to studies of Language Use. It was started by Anita Pomerantz then at Temple University, but is now managed by Alan Firth at Aalborg University, Denmark.
Procedures for subscribing are as follows: send an email message to: http://www.list.hum.aau.dk/mailman/listinfo/languse. In the body (*not* the 'subject' line) of the email, write: subscribe languse
That is all. Do not add your name or your email address. Shortly after that, two messages will be sent to you, the first confirming your subscription, the second containing instructions on the various automated Majordomo commands. Please keep this second message for reference purposes.
Once you are resubscribed, you will be able to use the list as normal. The address for all correspondence will be:
Alan Firth, Dept. of Language Studies, Aalborg University, Kroghstraede 3, DK-9220 Aalborg, Denmark.
Tel. (office, direct) ( 45) 9635 9164, Homepage: http://www.sprog.auc.dk/~firth
Email: firth@SPROG.AUC.DK
Possibly dead or inaccessible mailing lists
No idea if these mailing lists still work. Any clues? If you are on one of them - let us know at admins@conversationanalysis.org
"Kaiwa", a list on Japanese CA
- Status: no idea: Last checked by SaulAlbert (talk)
This list offers an informal platform for discussing CA of Japanese materials. If you are interested, all that is needed it to send a subscription message to the listserv.
To subscribe to the list send a message to: listserv@ma1.sg-u.ac.jp
(WARNING: that's a "one" after "ma" not an "L". Also make sure to use the dash character in "sg-u" and not an underline character "sg_u")
In the body of the message (not in the subject line) type: subscribe kaiwa YOUR NAME; For example:Â subscribe kaiwa Donald Carroll
After subscribing you will receive a welcome message which generally outlines the purpose of the list.  Let me stress that this new list is, in no way, competitive with either ETHNO or LANG-USE. It is not a splintering off but rather a natural complementary outgrowth. Being a smaller and more specialized list, I hope it will provide a casual and comfortable forum for
people who may have had something to say but were hesitant to post to a larger list.

COMSERVE'S ETHNO HOTLINE
- Status: no idea. Last checked by SaulAlbert (talk)
There is a quaint webpage about this list here - but tbh I can't decipher it nor figure out how to join http://www.cios.org/www/forums.htm
The Ethno hotline may or may not still function in the 21st Century. Paul's original instructions for joining are charmingly out of date - so please do modify this page to reflect any success/failure you experience trying to subscribe.

The Therapeutic Discourse List (therapeutic-discourse-l)
- Status: can't find int online. Last checked by SaulAlbert (talk)
Beginning in January 2004, the Therapeutic discourse listserve has been developed as a forum for researchers and practitioners interested in therapeutic discourse. The listserve also aims to promote wide-ranging theoretical, research-oriented and practice-focused discussions about communicative interactions where the intention is to be helpful. The Therapeutic Discourse listserve hopes to promote closer dialogue between professional helpers and those who research their conversations with clients.
The internet server hosting this list will be housed at the University of Calgary (in Canada). To subscribe as a listserve member, please do EXACTLY the following:
send an email message to: majordomo@majordomo.ucalgary.ca
Include in the body of your e-mail:
subscribe therapeutic-discourse-L
end
(do not put a subject heading for this e-mail)
Any further inquiries regarding the therapeutic-discourse-L listserve can be directed to Tom Strong at strongt@ucalgary.ca
