Abstract

On the basis of a number of fragments from telephone calls it is argued that a single "Yes" as a response to a request for a particular action does not in general counts as an acceptance of that request. As the recipient of a request reacts with a "yes" the requester continues taking about the request until a reaction follows that can be seen as an acceptance.

Notes

Can a request be accepted with a "Yes" ?
