The Rollercoaster of Conversation at New Scientist Live - London 22nd-25th September 2016:

Details:

Dear EM/CA colleagues,

You are invited to join a group of analysts testing out a new event format designed to demo EM/CA methods to a non-specialist public in the context of a science communication fair.

From the 22nd - 25th September 2016, the New Scientist Live (https://live.newscientist.com) will be hosting a huge public communication of science event, within which the 'Chat Lab' will host representatives from various methodologies for analyzing spontaneous human interaction, from Natural Language Processing to EM/CA methods.

The 'Rollercoaster of Conversation' is format designed for this event to demonstrate how EM/CA works - it involves using media technologies and a mix of skilled and trainee analysts to to quickly capture, transcribe and produce ad-hoc collections and analyses. The outcome for the public is that they get a snapshot insight into the intricate structure of the natural interactions they have just participated in - like seeing a photo of yourself at the bottom of a roller-coaster ride.

You can find a full description of the format and further details here: http://bit.ly/chatlab2016

If you are available to join in with one of the days - from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th September, 11:30-5:30pm - at the Excel Centre in London, please get in touch with s.albert@qmul.ac.uk and we will be happy to add you to one of the EM/CA demo teams for the day and send you further information in preparation for the event (ticket to the NSL event and a lunch between 1-2pm will be provided).

NB: On Sunday 25th at 10:30-11:10, Liz Stokoe will also be on the Technology stage presenting 'Talk as Technology' and having a short discussion/Q&A with Saul Albert: https://live.newscientist.com/elizabeth-stokoe/
